Providence Spring Elementary School in South Charlotte was named a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School by the US Department of Education on September 24, 2013.  Only 236 public schools and 50 private schools in the entire country achieved this honor, including just 6 schools in North Carolina.  The National Blue Ribbon School Program recognizes schools that consistently make progress in closing the achievement gap and that help all students achieve academic success at very high levels.  Providence Spring Elementary is the only Charlotte-Mecklenburg School to achieve this honor, and was among only 6 North Carolina schools to be named a Blue Ribbon School.

Two Union County Schools were also named 2013 Blue Ribbon Schools:  Shiloh Elementary School in Monroe, NC, and Weddington Middle School in Weddington, NC.  Providence Spring, Shiloh, and Weddington Middle Schools were all named “Exemplary High Performing Blue Ribbon Schools,” meaning they rank among the highest in the State on standardized exams.

Providence Spring Elementary School in South Charlotte NC consistently ranks among the highest scoring elementary schools in the Charlotte area, as well as the State of North Carolina.  Last year, Providence Spring Elementary School was the top-scoring elementary school on the ABC’s accountability and performance composite.  This composite measures the percentage of students who are proficient or on-grade level or above.

Diane Adams, Principal of Providence Spring Elementary, recognized the hard work of PSE’s students, teachers, support staff, parents, PTA, and Literary Facilitator Wendy Ikoku and Technology Facilitator Lynn Keith (Ikoku and Keith completed the 2013 Blue Ribbon application) in achieving this major award and recognition.  Mrs. Adams will join other Blue Ribbon recipients from around the country at an awards ceremony and conference in Washington DC on November 18-19.
